Nadal makes third round in Paris

World number one Rafael Nadal booked his place in the third round of the BNP Paribas Masters in Paris with a straight-sets victory over fellow Spaniard Marcel Granollers.

Nadal, who is the top seed in the tournament, came through 7-5 7-5 in a match time of one hour 42 minutes to line up a meeting with Jerzy Janowicz.

Spain's third seed David Ferrer also progressed but he was taken to three sets by Lukas Rosol, eventually winning 6-0 2-6 6-3.

Argentina's Juan Martin Del Potro, seeded fourth, saw off the challenge of Marin Cilic 6-4 7-6 (7/3) and lined up a third-round match with Grigor Dimitrov, who came though his encounter with 16th seed Fabio Fognini.

Elsewhere, Nicolas Almagro defeated Ivan Dodig, seventh seed Stanislas Wawrinka beat Feliciano Lopez and American John Isner came through against Polish qualifier Michal Przysiezny.
