Moyes prepares for crunch match

David Moyes faces an uphill task to reach the Champions League quarter-finals
18 March 2014

Manchester United manager David Moyes ran the rule over his players for the final time before their crunch Champions League match against Olympiacos.

Two-and-a-half weeks after a dire 2-0 defeat in Greece, United stumbled to their latest embarrassing result on Sunday when they went down 3-0 at home to bitter rivals Liverpool.

It is understood that Moyes retains the backing of the United board despite rumours that the club are considering a replacement.

Moyes has a huge task ahead of him if he is to finish in the top four of the Barclays Premier League. United are seventh in the table, some 12 points behind the Champions League qualification places with nine matches left.

The United manager has an equally difficult task ahead of him if he is to overturn the two-goal deficit at Old Trafford on Wednesday and qualify for the quarter-finals of the competition.

The United boss looks as if he will be without defenders Chris Smalling (hamstring) and Jonny Evans (calf), who both missed training on a wet morning at the AON Training Complex in Carrington.
