Horner plays down buy-out report

Christian Horner is not expecting an imminent move for Red Bull to takeover a Premier League club

Red Bull Formula One team principal Christian Horner does not believe the energy drinks company is on the brink of a takeover at a Barclays Premier League club - but would not be surprised if it made a move in the future.

The Austria-based firm already has established links within football as owners at Austrian league leaders Salzburg, Major League Soccer franchise New York Red Bulls and also German club Leipzig, as well as at sides in Brazil and Ghana.

According to reports in the English press on Sunday, buying out an English top-flight side is next on Red Bull's agenda.

However, Horner - whose drivers Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber completed a one-two at the Japanese Grand Prix on Sunday - is not expecting an imminent move.

"I would doubt it," Horner said to BBC Radio Five Live's Sportsweek programme.

"They have got their own team in Salzburg, they have another one in Germany, so I am not sure they would want to take another one on at the moment, but with Red Bull, you never know."
