Silverstone officials are leaving no stone unturned ahead of this season's British Grand Prix to ensure they avoid a repeat of last year's weather-hit chaos.

The circuit was forced to embarrassingly ask fans not to attend on Saturday for qualifying in order to preserve car parks severely damaged by traffic and torrential rains the day before.

Silverstone claim lessons have been learned, releasing further funds to improve infrastructure, as well as increasing travel options. The main areas for investment are on-site camping and parking, along with work to improve drainage and water displacement systems. In addition, shuttle services are also being improved with bus and coach operators for all three days of the June 28-30 event.

Richard Phillips, managing director of Silverstone Circuits Limited, said: "We are investing significant time and money to further improve the fans' British Grand Prix experience.

"We want to ensure there is no repeat of the weather-related issues that affected some fans on the Friday of last year's event."

Given the captivating start to the campaign, and with Max Chilton strengthening the British contingent to four on the grid alongside Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button and Paul Di Resta, Phillips is already anticipating a stunning event this year.

"If the first two races are anything to go by, it's going to be a breathtaking season," added Phillips.

"Last year's British Grand Prix attracted an outstanding attendance of 297,000 over all three days, despite the extreme weather conditions.

"If the drivers maintain this level of excitement, I'm sure we will be looking at another capacity crowd at the end of June.

"With four British drivers to cheer on, the atmosphere promises to be electric."
