Foden eager to make most of return

Ben Foden is out to impress
8 November 2013

Ben Foden intends celebrating his return to the England team by enjoying every moment of his first appearance at Twickenham since March 2012.

Foden has been selected on the wing by coach Stuart Lancaster, a position he has filled only twice before in his 32 caps, for Saturday's QBE International against Argentina.

The 28-year-old was England's first choice full-back from 2010 until last year only for an ankle injury and the emergence of Mike Brown and Alex Goode to see him slide down the pecking order.

But having profited from injuries to Marland Yarde and Christian Wade, he intends seizing his opportunity.

"I'm looking forward to getting back. It's been 19 months since I ran out at Twickenham in a white shirt to start a game for England," he said.

"When you do fall from grace, there are so many people waiting for you to get back there so you really have to take your opportunities and relish them too.

"Your family and friends are there and millions of people are watching at home.

"For me, being one of the older heads in the team, it's all about memories and enjoying the moment.

"You don't want to let them down. You want to do big things to create even bigger memories.

"For me when I take the field I will try to go out there with a no-holds-barred attitude.

"I want to show everyone why Stuart has put faith in me to play on the wing and show people what I've been doing for Saints recently."

Foden believes he is back to his best after overcoming the ankle problem that forced him to sit out last autumn and this year's RBS 6 Nations.

"It was about getting my ankle right and then getting some form together, which started happening at the end of last season," he said.

"When you're a young kid and you get called up for England, you do think you are indestructible.

"You think your bones are made of diamond and they're not going to break.

"My ankle injury was the first big hiccup in my career and after thinking I could bounce straight back from it, it didn't work out like that."
