Farah 'won't overdo it in London'

Mo Farah has 'great memories' of the Olympic Stadium
27 July 2013

Mo Farah is excited to be returning to the scene of his Olympic triumphs last summer ahead of the Sainsbury's Anniversary Games on Saturday, but has vowed not to push himself too far with the World Championships on the horizon.

The 30-year-old collected both 5,000 metres and 10,000m gold in London to become one of the stars of his home Games, and will race in the Olympic Stadium once again when he competes in the 3,000m Diamond League race on Saturday night.

Farah, who is in good shape after breaking the European 1,500m record at the Herculis Diamond League meeting in Monaco last weekend, is determined to put on a good show in front of a packed home crowd but will not jeopardise success at next month's World Championships in Moscow in search of another record-breaking run.

When asked if he would request the race to be paced for a stab at the British or European 3,000m record, Farah said. "I'm just going to leave you guys guessing.

"My aim is to try abd win the race but I haven't thought too much about it - but I will have a chat with Alberto [Salazar, coach] tonight.

"The most important thing for me, though, is not to overcook it. Moscow is what I'm getting ready for and this is just another race to get me tuned in.

"I have got great memories of the stadium. It will be amazing just walking in there and getting the reception, there will be a lot of memories coming back at that point.

"It would be good to win the race, tick that box and then go away to St Moritz for high-altitude training and I will stay there until Moscow."

With Farah's record-breaking run in Monaco fresh in his mind, the Somalia-born athlete is hoping to continue his impressive displays into his two preferred distances in Moscow in just over two weeks' time.

"It [the record] shows that I'm in great form, I have just got to hold it together," he said.

"It is great to have that confidence when it comes to Moscow. It is going to be a different race - it is exciting because they will be testing me out."
