Everton defender Sylvain Distin has signed a new one-year contract to keep him at the club next season.

The 34-year-old centre-back's existing deal had expired but he was always determined to remain at Goodison Park and a new agreement was not long in being finalised.

"Sylvain Distin has signed a new one-year contract with Everton which will keep him at Goodison Park for the 2012/13 season," said a statement on evertonfc.com.

Distin has made 115 appearances for the Toffees since joining from Portsmouth almost three years ago and was recently voted Players' Player of the Season.

"I don't need any boost to go into next season. I love my job and I know how lucky I am to do this kind of job," he said.

"I want to carry on as long as I can. No matter what happens, you can be sure I'll be there the next day.

"It's a good squad here with a great atmosphere. I feel so comfortable with the lads, so it's a pleasure.

"Guys like (Leighton) Baines, (Marouane) Fellaini, (John) Heitinga, (Phil) Jagielka, (Tim) Howard - there's a lot of quality in this squad."
