Three people have died after a car crashed into a tree.

West Mercia Police said two women and a man were killed when the vehicle struck a tree at Avon Bank near Pershore, Worcestershire. A fourth person who was in the vehicle, a man, is critically ill in hospital.

A police spokesman said: "Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of the paramedics that attended the scene, a man and a woman were pronounced dead a short time after emergency services arrived.

"A second man and a second woman were rushed to hospital immediately after the RTC but sadly the woman was also pronounced dead a short time later.

"The man admitted to hospital is currently said to be in a critical condition with multiple injuries.

"All four casualties from the vehicle are thought to be in their 20s."

West Midlands Ambulance Service said paramedics were called to the crash, on the B4084, at 12.45am.

The road was closed following the crash but has now reopened.

Police urged anyone with information to contact them on 101 or 0300 333 3000, quoting incident number 20S 090612.
