Thousands of people have gathered for a celebration concert as the Olympic torch completed the first leg of its tour of Scotland.

Throughout the day crowds lined the streets of towns and villages to welcome the flame as it travelled 138 milesfrom Stranraer to Glasgow.

The torch was carried into Glasgow's George Square and a cauldron was lit ahead of performances from Eliza Doolittle and Emeli Sande.

Ross Morrison, 18, from Auchinleck in Ayrshire, was the final torchbearer of the day and was "honoured" to carry it on stage ahead of the concert.

He said: "I only found out last week that I would be actually going on stage to light the cauldron from my torch, and to be doing it in front of this crowd is just amazing."

In the seaside port of Stranraer the build-up began at dawn with music in Castle Square where bearers carrying flags of the 200 countries taking part in the London Games greeted the torch procession.

The relay set off at 6am, carried by soldier Ross McClelland from Ayr, the first person to run with the torch on Scottish soil. The 20-year-old, who serves with A Company 2 Scots, returned from a tour of duty in Afghanistan earlier this year.

He said the experience of carrying the torch was brilliant: "I'm still on a high right now. My big sister nominated me when I was in Afghanistan. I do a lot of running in the Army and she thought it would be right up my street."

When it reached Glasgow the torch was cycled part of the route by stunt biker Danny MacAskill. It was later passed to actor James McAvoy who soaked up the atmosphere from the crowd as he ran down Buchanan Street in the city centre.

The torch is touring Scotland for the next seven days, taking in some of the UK's farthest-flung places, including Orkney and Shetland, and the Outer Hebrides.
