Boyzone star Ronan Keating has been added to the cast of Postman Pat: The Movie - playing the singing voice of the cheery postie.

He joins actors such as Jim Broadbent, Rupert Grint and and David Tennant in the animated movie which is due to come out in May.

Stephen Mangan is playing the speaking voice of Pat, who was first seen by TV audiences 32 years ago.

In addition to his singing role, Keating, whose solo hits include Life Is A Rollercoaster, will have a role as a TV talent show contestant.

Keating said: "It's been a true honour to help bring Postman Pat's singing voice to life. I grew up watching Pat and all the great characters in Greendale, so I can't wait to take my kids along to see them all on the big screen."

In the film, Pat enters a talent show and as success beckons, he has to wrestle with the prospect of leaving Greendale and life-altering changes.

The original voice of Pat - and the man who sang the theme tune to the show - was actor Ken Barrie, now 70.
