Murder-charge ex-policeman in court

A former police officer has been remanded in custody after appearing in court charged with murdering his wife at her high street hair salon.

Ivan Esack, 38, of Rosewood Avenue, Ashford, Kent, spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address during a first appearance at Canterbury Magistrates' Court.

He was charged by Kent Police on Tuesday night with murdering 33-year-old Natalie Esack who was found at her hairdressing business, Esack Hair and Beauty in High Street, Ashford, on Monday morning.

A post-mortem examination found she died from multiple stab wounds.

Unshaven Esack, dressed in a blue jumper, was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on Thursday.

There was no application for bail during the five-minute hearing.

Esack was employed by Kent Police until 2010 but more recently had been working as a football agent, according to his website.
