12 February 2014

A Government department's website was taken offline by a cyber attack which bombarded it with access requests.

The Ministry of Justice said the website was temporarily knocked out by a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack, which involves overloading the target's systems.

The department wrote on Twitter: "Unfortunately the Justice website is down following a DDoS attack last night, we are working hard to bring it back online ASAP."

The website was later restored after several hours offline.
