Man dies after mountain collapse

Police have confirmed that a man who collapsed on a mountain has died

A 61-year-old man has died after collapsing on a mountain.

Emergency services were called to the Am Faochagagh munro in the Highlands at about 1.45pm yesterday after reports that a man had collapsed.

Police, Dundonnell Mountain Rescue and a Coastguard helicopter from Stornoway attended. Attempts were made to revive the victim but he died.

The man, who police say was from the central belt, was with two friends at the time.

Police said no further details of the man would be released until his next of kin had been informed.
