More than a dozen football supporters were arrested after trouble broke out in a pub following a hotly-contested local derby game.

In all 13 people were arrested for disorder-related offences after police had to be called to an altercation involving up to 40 people at The Festival Inn in Trowell in Nottinghamshire, according to police.

Officers were called at about 5pm on Saturday, three hours after the final whistle had blown on Nottingham Forest's home fixture against local rivals Derby County in the Championship.

Nottinghamshire Police said 10 people were also arrested during and immediately after the game at Forest's City Ground.

Detectives are now appealing for anyone who saw anything or has any information about the trouble at the pub to contact the force's football intelligence unit on 0115 967 2254.

Superintendent Mark Holland said: "This incident took place long after the majority of supporters had enjoyed the game and made their way home peacefully.

"It is a minority who give football supporters a bad name with incidents like this and it should not be tolerated."

Nottingham Forest went on to beat 10-man Derby 1 - 0.

After the game, Derby announced it had parted company with its long-standing manager Nigel Clough.
