Veteran rock act Aerosmith are to headline a major outdoor festival in London which has been rebranded and moved to a new location.

The band will play their first date in the city for four years at the Calling Festival on Clapham Common on Saturday June 28.

The event was formerly known as Hard Rock Calling and had been staged in Hyde Park for many years but, after a switch to the former Olympic park in east London last year, the sponsors pulled out.

Promoter Live Nation has now kept the festival alive with a further two-day event at the new location in south London.

Sharing the bill with Aerosmith - whose hits include Walk This Way, Love In An Elevator and Crazy - will be Thunder and Joe Bonamassa.

Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry said: "It's been far too long since we have performed in the UK. We can't wait to bring back some of the classics as well as some of the new songs from Music From Another Dimension. We miss our UK fans."

Live Nation's vice president of promotions, Toby Leighton-Pope, said: "We're looking forward to bringing the new look event to Clapham Common, one of London's premier outdoor locations."

In past years the festival - which began life as Hyde Park Calling - has featured acts of the calibre of Bon Jovi, Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young and Sir Paul McCartney.

A headliner for Sunday June 29 is to be announced later. Tickets go on sale at 9am on Friday at www.livenation.co.uk.
