Police officers' pursuit of two men began in Brisbane and only came to an end in New South Wales, when tyre spikes were laid out to force the car to stop.
Abandoning their car, the men sprint across the busy motorway, apparently firing a handgun.
The bare-chested men then appear to attempt to hijack another car.
Dramatic footage appears to show them causing at least one crash as they wave the weapon around in the frantic chase.
One of the men points his gun at a passing car, but is thrown into the air when it does not stop.
He then drops his weapon and continues to run onwards.
Two men were charged with attempted murder, and a could also face further carjacking charges.
