A supermarket employee allegedly called the police when two men asked for sliced cheese in the US.

Ricky Berry told local news broadcaster WRIC how staff at his local CVS store disappeared and then called the police when he and his flatmate asked for sliced cheese.

Mr Berry and his friend, Philip Blackwell, said they approached an employee asking for cheese, but were told that the store in Richmond, Virginia didn’t have any.

Minutes later they found themselves alone in the store with one other customer.

“He was in the store before we were actually,” Mr Berry told the broadcaster

“He had a bad tooth, all he wanted was some Orajel. That’s all he needed.”

The three men spent the next half an hour wandering around the supermarket trying to find someone.

Eventually a policeman turned up and joined the search.

“We were walking around trying to find an employee, and the cop himself ended up opening up the emergency door, which set the alarm off.

“A couple of minutes later, he got the call from the alarm company asking what was going on.”

“He was laughing with us because, like, this is how weird, apocalyptic movies start.”

The policeman eventually found the staff hiding in a locked room at the back of the store.

The officer then told the three men they had to leave or be arrested for trespassing.

According to Mr Berry, the staff had been “scared” of the customers. It was later reported that there had been an incident in the store earlier that day.

A CVS spokesperson has reportedly apologised and said the employee who called the police would be spoken to.
