Man dies after vape blows up in his face and launches projectiles into his skull in Florida

A man died after his vape blew up in his face and launched projectiles into his skull, a US autopsy report found.

Tallmadge D'Elia, 35, also suffered burns over 80 per cent of his body in a fire caused by the exploding e-cigarette, forensic officials said.

The shocking incident in Florida is believed to be the first ever vape-related death in the US, according to reports of the explosion on Wednesday.

The television producer's death on May 5 has been ruled an accident, with officials saying the cause was a “projectile wound of the head”, US media reported.

Two pieces of the vape pen were found in his cranium, according to the autopsy.

The report said emergency crews encountered "extensive" fire damage to the bedroom where the body was found.

The electronic cigarette was manufactured by Smok-E Mountain, the medical examiner said.
