A US shoe company has been forced to recall a line of boots after customers discovered they leave behind tiny swastika prints.

Conal International Trading Co apologised for the “obvious mistake” and said it was “in no way intentional” – blaming manufacturers in China.

In an open letter, the company said: "We will not be selling any of our boots with the misprint to anyone.

"We would never create a design to promote hate. We don't promote hate at our company."

The company noticed the awkward feature of its Polar Fox boot after one customer posted a photo of the boot print on social media site Reddit.

"There was an angle I didn't get to see when ordering my new work boots," rerad the post, which has been viewed more than two million times.

"The soles don't look that much like swastikas, but the prints are unmistakable. And whoever made the soles would have understood that."

The boots were being sold on Amazon until the recall, where reviews poked fun at the error.

One said they were “heily recommended”, while another rated the boots “nein out of ten”.
