Political blogger Taegan Goddard (@politicalwire) tweeted yesterday: “Living in solidly blue New York, we have very few campaign signs. But we do have these… pic.twitter.com/cCR9QLX1” — linking to a picture of a hurricane evacuation route sign.

Hurricane Sandy’s arrival on the east coast is an unforeseen crisis for both candidates. Mitt Romney has cancelled Virginia campaign events and stopped fundraising in states in the storm’s path, while Barack Obama cancelled events in Colorado and Virginia today and tomorrow.

Politico.com’s Jonathan Allen observed of the men’s television campaigns: “No one can watch TV if their power’s out.”

Politico.com reports how President Obama, upon meeting a couple in New Hampshire who had been married for 48 years, revealed one of his secrets of a happy 20-year marriage to Michelle.

He said: “Michelle’s attitude is that it takes about 15 years to train a man. But the last five have been pretty good.”

Mitt Romney got a boost in the swing state of Iowa when its biggest newspaper, the Des Moines Register, endorsed him — the first time it has backed a Republican White House hopeful since 1972. But Alec MacGillis (@AlecMacGillis) pointed out it is only 73rd biggest paper in the US.
