Two Chelsea fans have been injured in an attack allegedly by local fans ahead of a Europa League match at PAOK Thessaloniki, Greek authorities have said.

The Englishmen were beaten by three assailants in central Thessaloniki, a port city on the Thermaic Gulf, shortly before dawn, police said.

An ambulance crew provided first aid but the men refused to be taken to the hospital for their injuries.

The attackers escaped and police said the Chelsea fans did not wish to press charges.
