TripAdvisor user complains of being 'outnumbered by too many gay couples' at hotel in Gran Canaria

Hotel review: The use complained that gay couples made him feel uncomfortable

A holidaymaker on TripAdviser has shocked users after complaining that there were “too many gay couples” in a Gran Canaria hotel.

The user, named MooSmith21, was leaving a review for the Hotel Neptune where he had stayed with his girlfriend.

He praised the food in the hotel for being "brilliant" but complained that the number of "gays" amongst guests made him feel shocked and uncomfortable.

Moosmith begins his comments “I am not homophobic, howver” and goes on to complain about the number of homosexual couples “outnumbered straight couples two-to-one” causing a “definite feeling of them and us”.

He wrote: "Although we knew that this was an adult only hotel I was quite shocked at the amount of gay couples.

"Because of this we never spent too much time at the hotel or relaxing around the pool as I felt very uncomfortable.

"The location of the hotel meant that we were able to get around with ease however in the immediate surrounding areas there are gay bars, gay hotels and gay wrestling shows which wasn't for me and again made me feel uncomfortable"

He added: “One guy also sent a drink up to my room even though I had never spoken to him and my girlfriend was visible. Bit perverted if you ask me!”

The post has since been taken down by TripAdvisor but was shared on Twitter.

It has sparked both outrage and jokes on social media, with on person questioning: “But did he drink the free drink?”

Another wrote: “I think it was a case of fragile masculinity.”

And one user added: “As if that got published?! I thought these reviews were moderated?”

The adult only hotel is in the middle of the Playa del Ingles and boasts being close to “heaving nightlife” and the “charismatic beach”.

Attitude magazine mocked the review, commenting that the couple must have "missed the memo that Gran Canaria is one the gayest places on earth".
