‘New book will reveal nothing about Meghan Markle — her sister doesn’t know her’

Samantha Markle’s memoir will offer no real insight into the Duchess of Sussex as the half-sisters have never had a relationship, the co-author of a best-selling book about Meghan and Harry claimed today.

Omid Scobie, who co-wrote Finding Freedom last year, said he found it “hard to believe” Markle will have “anything interesting to say” about the duchess. The author and journalist cast doubt on the validity of the book, The Diary of Princess Pushy’s Sister Part 1, predicting it would be a “spiky title and nothing more.”

Markle has reportedly not seen Meghan since 2008. Scobie said the Sussexes — who now live in Montecito, California, with their son Archie, one, after stepping down as senior royals last year — have “nothing to worry about”.

He added: “Whatever Samantha is up to or whatever she is trying to do — it just wouldn’t penetrate their bubble.”

Scobie told the Standard: “I find it quite hard to believe that Samantha will have anything interesting to say about her relationship with Meghan as there simply wasn’t one. What we have seen her do over the years is simply jump on to conversations to give her opinion, but she has never been able to give any insight into the duchess herself because she just didn’t know her beyond the time they spent together as children.”

He added: “This book is something that Samantha has been threatening to release for three years. A publisher never [previously] bit because it seems to be that she didn’t have the goods to offer. It is a spiky title and nothing more.”

Markle, 56, is the eldest daughter of Meghan’s father, Thomas Markle, from his first marriage. Bookseller Barnes & Noble said the memoir will expose “hidden truths about her [Meghan’s] family.”

Speaking about how he thought the Sussexes would be feeling ahead of publication, Scobie said: “I think the couple at this stage really have nothing to worry about and nothing much to say or think about this.”

He added: “I think they are very focused on the present. Samantha represents a period in the past, she has already attempted to cause trouble with the few stories that she has had to share, and I think this book will be nothing more than a rehash of those and it is just an attempt [by her] to be a part of the Sussex conversation again. Samantha, her story is old news and that is, I think, exactly how the couple will be feeling.”

Last year, Meghan confirmed she had allowed an unnamed individual to speak to Scobie ahead of the publication of Finding Freedom to “prevent any further misrepresentation” about her relationship with her father. Samantha Markle has regularly attacked Meghan and Harry on social media, calling her sister “heartless”,  “delusionally absurd” and a “shallow social climber”.

This week, Markle told The Sun her book is not a tell-all memoir on Meghan, but would make her sibling feel uncomfortable. She added that the royal family will not  be “unhappy” with the book. She also confirmed that she had not spoken to Meghan about it.

A representative of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex declined to comment.

The Diary of Princess Pushy’s Sister Part 1 is out in the US on January 17
