This record-breaking reptile was caught and killed on the second day of alligator hunting season in Mississippi.

The 13-foot 5.5inch beast, weighing 723.5lbs, was caught by Beth Trammell and her team during the 10-day season in the state.

But the record was short-lived, as just hours later Dustin Brockman, along with two others, caught an alligator weighing three and a half pounds more at 727lbs.

“We chased him for about two hours,” Brockman said. “Then we got a shot on him.”

After hooking the alligator, Brockman said it took a further two hours to get a clear enough shot to kill it.

He said it took another four hours to get it into the boat. The animal was too heavy for three men and Brockman was forced to bring in reinforcements.

The beast weighed more than three baby Asian elephants. Their average weight at birth is around 200 lbs.

“We killed the alligator at 4am,” he said. “We waited until 6:30[am] before I called three or four more guys to help us load it into the boat.”

The 52 stone creature will be turned into a gun strap and its meat will be eaten.

“We’re going to cook it for sure,” Brockman added.

“I got a bunch of people who want some, and there’s plenty for me and everybody else.”Trammell said "We’ll eat the meat."

"I think my brother in law is going to get the head mounted."
