A radio station DJ barricaded himself into his studio gave listeners an enforced dose of the Christmas spirit by playing the Wham hit Last Christmas 24 times on repeat.

Joe Kohlhofer locked his co-host out of the studio before he began his 8am breakfast show on Austria's Antennae Carinthia station, telling her he would be presenting on his own.

The DJ then played the Christmas hit on a loop for two hours, while the show's producers and co-host Patricia Jordan looked on through the glass partition while Kohlhofer took calls from 120 listeners begging him to stop.

According to Austrian media reports, he only agreed to stop when his own four-year-old daughter rang in to say she didn't like the song.

Antennae Carinthia claims the stunt, which saw Kohlhofer blockade the door to the studio with a wooden chair, was not pre-planned.

Station bosses have said Kohlhofer could "face consequences", but as coverage of the stunt has featured prominently on Antennae Carinthia's own website it looks unlikely that he will be reprimanded.

Kohlhofer has also posted clippings of the media coverage on his Facebook page, saying he is "feeling proud".
