A flight was forced into an emergency landing due to a furious row after a woman reclined her seat to make space to do her knitting.

Amy Fine, 52, of Florida, was enraged when the passenger in front of her reclined her seat and bumped her on the head.

The argument forced the Delta Airlines flight heading towards West Palm Beach to make an unscheduled landing at Jacksonville Airport.

Passenger Aaron Kiplin told WPTV Ms Fine was trying to take a nap on the tray table when the older woman reclined her seat.

He said the argument became more heated when flight attendants got involved and Fine was overheard saying: “I don’t care about the consequences, put this plane down.”

Mr Kiplin said: “She said, ‘I lost two dogs in the last month. I want her off of here, or I’m going to leave, or I want you to stop the plane.”

It is the third row in the space of a fortnight to be sparked by reclining seats on a plane.

Last Wednesday a flight heading to Paris was rerouted when men started fighting when one tried to recline their seat.

In a separate incident two passengers fell out when a man used a Knee Defender to stop a passenger reclining her seat. The woman threw a glass of water over him in ager and both were thrown off the flight.

A spokesman for the airline told the Daily Mail: "Out of an abundance of caution, the captain elected to divert to the closest airport. Local law enforcement met the flight and removed the passenger."
