A number of "packages" have been found inside the body of a man who died on an Aer Lingus flight to Ireland after biting a fellow passenger in a violent scuffle, it has been reported.

A post mortem examination on the 24-year-old Brazilian man was completed yesterday. During the procedure several packages were recovered and sent for forensic analysis, RTE News reported.

The broadcaster claimed at least one of them was apparently ruptured.

According to reports the man "ran amok" on board an Aer Lingus flight from Lisbon to Dublin on Sunday.

He was said to have begun "biting another passenger" before being restrained by crew after becoming "extremely violent".

The man later fell unconscious and was pronounced dead at Cork airport after the pilot was forced to divert the plane.

A Portuguese woman in her 40s was arrested on suspicion of drug offences when it arrived. Police also seized a quantity of amphetamines from the plane.

A spokesman for the Irish airline said the aircraft, which was carrying 168 passengers and six crew, landed in Cork at about 5.40pm on Sunday as a result of a "medical emergency".

He added: “Aer Lingus flight EI 485 Lisbon to Dublin, diverted into Cork due to a medical emergency on board.

“There were 168 guests and six crew members on board. The flight landed safely at 5.40pm local time."
