This is the shocking moment a police dog pushed a woman onto train tracks in Germany.

The footage, filmed by a bystander from an adjacent platform at the station in Nuremberg, showed the dog furiously barking at a passenger waiting for the next train as the handler tried to bring it under control.

The dog then leapt towards the woman as she was walking past and pushed her onto the tracks.

She was able to make it back onto the platform safely after she was hoisted up by another police officer and a member of the public.

The dog and its handler were on the platform to provide security for a football match between FC Nuremberg and Dynamo Dresden, German newspaper Bild reported.

The bystander who passed the footage to the newspaper said: “I wanted to document the over-the-top behaviour of the police with my camera.”

A federal police spokesman told Bild that the dog had been trained to defend its handler and attacked the woman because she came too close.

The federal police are responsible for guarding German borders and policing airports and railways.
