Shocking CCTV footage appears to show the moment two callous thieves stole money from a cash register while a shop assistant suffered a heart attack.

The man is fighting for his life in hospital after suffering a heart attack during the break-in in Auburn, Washington, ABC News reported.

Police are now searching for the two youths along with one man who came into the store with them.

He disappeared before the pair started stealing from the cash register on September 8.

Footage from the incident shows the three men entering the premises at around 5.41pm.

According to ABC, the shop assistant became involved in an argument with the older man after the assistant wanted to charge him for two Peperami sticks that he had seen the two youths take.

He then appears to walk around the counter to continue the argument but as he goes to stand behind the till again, he collapses and hits the floor.

The older man is caught on camera leaving the store. The two youths follow shortly after but later return to take money out of the till.

"It just breaks our hearts. We just pray to God he makes it," he said.
