Missing plane found after five years

A small plane that has been missing since 2008 with 14 people on board has been found off the coast of Los Roques archipelago, Venezuelan authorities said.

Attorney General Luisa Ortega Diaz announced via Twitter the discovery of the aircraft with the ID code YV2081.

The plane went missing January 4, 2008.

There were five Venezuelans, including the pilot and copilot, eight Italians and one Swiss citizens on board. The copilot’s body was found days later.

The wreckage was discovered about six miles off Los Roques archipelago at a depth of around 3,000 feet.

A statement released yesterday by the Public Ministry says the search was carried out by the U.S. search boat SeaScout under an agreement between Venezuela and Italy.
