Michael Schumacher 'fighting' to regain his health and still watches Formula 1 on TV, former Ferrari boss Jean Todt reveals

Michael Schumacher is making “good progress” and is able to watch Formula 1 races on television, his former racing boss said today.

The seven-time world champion, 50, has not been seen in public since falling and hitting his head on a rock while skiing in the French Alps in December 2013.

He suffered severe head injuries and was placed in a coma, and his condition has been kept private ever since.

But Former Ferrari boss Jean Todt, now head of motorsport’s governing body FIA, told Radio Monte-Carlo: “I’m always careful with such statements, but it’s true. I saw the race together with Michael Schumacher at his home in Switzerland.”

Todt, who worked with Schumacher during the glory years from 2000 to 2004 when the German scored five back-to-back world titles, said: “Michael is in the best hands and is well looked after in his house. He does not give up and keeps fighting.”

He added: “His family is fighting just as much and of course our friendship can not be the same as it once was. Just because there’s no longer the same communication as before. He continues to fight. And his family is fighting the same way.”
