Effigies of Donald Trump were burned during Easter celebrations in Mexico.

The Republican Presidential hopeful was the target of Mexicans' disdain after a series of comments against them.

Trump, a billionaire property tycoon, has advocated building a wall to keep Mexicans from entering the US.

He has also claimed Mexicans are responsible for a large number of rapes in the US.

But in Mexico City, onlookers hurled insults as papier mache mock-ups of Trump were set ablaze.

Burning effigies is part of a Mexican Holy Week tradition by which the figures represent Judas Iscariot, who the bible says betrayed Jesus.

Artist Felipe Linares produced a Trump effigy.

He told Sky News: "Since he started his campaign and began talking about immigrants, Mexico, and Mexicans, I said 'I've got to get this guy'."

Other figures burned during the celebration included US President Barack Obama - showing that Trump was not the only figure to attract the crowd's ire.
