Ariana Grande has been hit with a torrent of online abuse from alt-right Trump supporters following a terrorist attack on the US pop star’s Manchester gig which left 22 people dead.
Trolls hit out at the singer when she returned to America after suicide bomber Salman Abedi blew himself up as fans left the concert on Monday.
The abuse was centred around a comment the 23-year-old jokingly made to friend whilst in a donut shop in 2015 when she said: “I hate America. I hate Americans.”
Facebook group Patriots for America created a meme of the singer, who openly supported Hillary Clinton in last year’s US election, along with the quote.
A caption posted alongside the image branded Grande an “anti-American Muslim sympathiser”.
It read: “Ariana Grande - Pro refugee, Muslim sympathizer, anti-Trump, anti-American, Women's March organizer and raging liberal is suddenly wishing she was back in the safety of the America she hates so much! #ArianaGrande #LoveItOrLeave.”
The picture was then posted on many alt-right Twitter accounts, including conspiracy theorist Mike Cernovich, The Rebel TV's Jack Posobiec and that of Former KKK leader David Duke.
Others hit out at comments made by the singer that she was "in tears" following Donald Trump's election as US president.
The singer said she was “broken” following the attack and has since suspended her tour.
She wrote on Twitter: “broken. from the bottom of my heart, i am so so sorry. i don't have words.”
