Leopard escapes cage again, a week after mauling six at Indian school

A leopard that mauled six people after getting into a school in India has escaped from its new enclosure.

The big cat injured six people at the Vibgyor International school in Bangalore on February 7 before it was captured.

Extraordinary footage of the incident showed the animal terrorising men around a pool, with some of them attempting to contain it.

It took police and wildlife officials 12 hours to capture the animal, after tranquilisers kicked in.

The leopard was then taken to the Bannerghatta National Park, but it has now escaped from its cage at the facility.

A large search is under way after it got out on Sunday when the cage was opened for feeding.

Officials said locals should not be too alarmed and there were no reports of any new injuries.

Ravi Ralph, chief wildlife warden in the south Indian state of Karnataka, told the BBC: “It is a myth that a leopard can turn into a man-eater. It’s a very remote exception to the rule.

“On this count, there is no need for worry."
