Never before seen images from the scene of Kurt Cobain’s death have been released by police nearly 20 years after he died.

The pictures, which were on a roll of film found at the house where the Nirvana star committed suicide in 1994, show a tatty cigar box containing a spoon with possible heroin residue on it, needles and a lighter.

Shabby clothing, sunglasses and the singer’s wallet and ID can also be seen in the images.

The four undeveloped rolls of film were found last month in a police photo lab, police said.

The news comes after Seattle cops revealed they were re-examining the case as new evidence has come to light.

Officers plan to release the new photographs uncovered during the re-examination of the case and will answer questions on the anniversary of Cobain’s death next month, police spokeswoman Renee Witt said.

But although the Polaroid photos appear to make the scene clearer, police do not intend to launch a full reinvestigation, she added.

Cobain was found dead in his home near Lake Washington on April 8, 1994, aged 27.

It was ruled the Smells Like Teen Spirit star took a lethal dose of heroin before shooting himself in the head, days after a stint in rehab.

The 20th anniversary of his death falls on April 8 this year. Fans are expected to hold a series of vigils in tribute to the rock musician.
