Izmir explosion: Police shoot two attackers after blast near Turkish court injures at least 10 people

Two attackers have been shot dead in a shootout after at least 10 people were injured in an explosion outside a courthouse in Turkey.

The blast, reported be have been caused by a car bomb, happened in the city of Izmir, in the west of the country.

District Mayor Hasan Karadag told NTV television that one of the wounded was in serious condition.

A firefight between three of the suspected attackers and police erupted after the explosion, and two of the assailants were killed, he said.

Turkey's state-run news agency said police are looking for a third suspect, described as wearing a black coat and a white beret.

Witnesses described emergency services rushing to the scene close to an entrance of the court used by judges and prosecutors, local media reported.

Police shot dead two attackers after the blast and were seeking a third assailant, the state-run Anadolu news agency said.

The blast comes following a string of attacks, carried out by the ISIS or by Kurdish militants in recent weeks.

Thirty-nine people were killed in a nightclub attack in Istanbul during New Year's celebrations. ISIS claimed responsibility.
