Mourning fans of Nipsey Hussle have gathered outside his Los Angeles store after the musician was shot dead.

The group played his music while dancing and singing as they commemorated the star in the car park, which was filled with lit candles in tribute.

Footage was shared on social media of the scenes outside The Marathon, which is named after one of Hussle's albums.

Some fans were seen weeping and one person, posting footage of the memorial, said: "Very sad. I'm at a loss for words."

The 33-year-old rapper was the only victim of the shooting to die.

Flowers were also left for the rapper, who was a figure in the West Coast hip-hop scene for more than a decade.

Hussle had two children and was engaged to actress Lauren London.

Celebrities including fellow musicians Rihanna and Drake and basketball star LeBron James paid tribute to the Grammy Award-nominated rapper.

"This doesn't make any sense! My spirit is shaken by this!" Rihanna wrote.

She posted photos of Hussle with his daughter and another with his fiancee and added: "Dear God may His spirit Rest In Peace and May You grant divine comfort to all his loved ones! I'm so sorry this happened to you."

Detectives have been canvassing the area for witnesses and looking to see if any surveillance video captured the shooting.

Los Angeles Police Department said it was hunting for a black male suspect in connection with the shooting.
