Holi: Stunning pictures show why Hindu celebration is most colourful festival in the world

1/30

Millions of Hindus daubed themselves with brightly coloured powder as they celebrated the famous festival of Holi.

Mainly celebrated in India and Nepal, masses of people lined the streets for the holiday.

People united for the "festival of love", which calls on worshippers to shed all resentment they may have to one another.

It is also observed in other Asian countries as well as parts of the Western world.

Pakistan's Prime Minister Imran Khan wrote online: "Wishing our Hindu community a very happy and peaceful Holi, the festival of colours."

Former cricketer Shoaib Akhtar wrote: "Wishing Hindus community a very happy and peaceful Holi."

During Holi, worshippers throw brightly-coloured powder over one another to highlight positivity.

The festival began on Wednesday and ends on Thursday.
