An 11-year-old boy who saved his little sister's life by pushing her out the way of a car moments before impact has been killed in a suspected hit-and-run crash.

La'Darious Wylie died in hospital after being knocked down as he waited with his seven-year-old sibling Sha'Vonta at a bus stop on Chester, South Carolina.

Their mother Elizabeth McCrorey told the Charlotte Observer her son saw the car bearing down on them and lunged towards his sister to move her out the way.

By the time Sha'Vonta was able to get up, the car had driven off.

“He knew to look out for her,” Ms McCrorey said.

She added her son's organs were being donated following his tragic death.

Aunt Felicitia Mobley told local news: "We just dealing with it on a daily basis because when it’s a tragedy like this — we just have to deal with it day by day."

Police said the vehicle's driver, 57-year-old Michelle Johnson, was charged two days after the October 27 incident with felony hit-and-run resulting in death, the paper reported.

A fundraising page has been set up to help pay for the costs of La'Darious's funeral.
