Head of al Qaeda splinter group Khorasan killed during US airstrike in Syria

The head of al Qaeda splinter group Khorasan is reported to have been killed by an airstrike in Syria.

An official, who asked to remain anonymous, said Mohsin al-Fadhil was killed during one of its strikes today.

The official told Reuters: “We believe he is dead.”

It comes after the US launched airstrikes in Syria on Tuesday and said they were targeting the al Qaeda linked group.

The group is formed of veteran al Qaeda fighters from Afghanistan and Pakistan who travelled to Syria.
