Google has vowed to “drop everything” to fix its cheeseburger emoji.

Author Thomas Baekdal sparked a Twitter storm after sharing a screenshot of Apple and Google’s burger icons showing cheese in different places.

He wrote on the social media site: “I think we need to have a discussion about how Google's burger emoji is placing the cheese underneath the burger, while Apple puts it on top.”

After the post was shared widely online, the firm’s CEO Sundar Pichai responded - promising to address the problem today.

He said: “Will drop everything else we are doing and address on Monday if folks can agree on the correct way to do this!”

Thousands of Twitter users made suggestions and joked about the exchange between Mr Baekdal and the Google chief.

One user wrote: “Just Google Image search a cheeseburger”. Another tweeted: “Cheese misplacement is clearly the result of not enough diversity on the emoji team. Damn those vegetarians.”

And another said: “So proud to work at a company which has its priorities right.”

Google is the only tech company that has created a cheeseburger emoji with the cheese on the bottom.

Website emojipedia shows that Apple, WhatsApp, Facebook and Twitter all made the decision to place the cheese above the meat.

It was not immediately clear if Google would genuinely change the placement of the cheese.
