Ryanair has cancelled 300 flights due to a strike in France that has potential to affect more than 50,000 passengers.
The Irish company is one of the airlines most impacted by the industrial action as French air-traffic controllers (ATC) chose to walk out after authorities failed to reach an agreement.
Thursday’s walkout by air-traffic controllers has led to 75 per cent of flights being cancelled into Paris Orly, 55 per cent into Paris Charles De Gaulle, and 65 per cent into Marseille.
Ryanair has said the knock-on impact will affect flights not just into and out of France but around the continent.
Its chief executive Michael O’Leary said: “French air-traffic controllers are free to go on strike, that’s their right, but we should be cancelling French flights, not flights leaving Ireland, going to Italy, or flights from Germany to Spain or Scandinavia to Portugal.”
He attacked the European Commission under Ursula von der Leyen for, in his words, failing to protect overflights and the single market for air travel.
