Bomb disposal experts have apparently carried out an explosion outside the French football team’s hotel just hours before the Euro 2016 final.

Crowds of supporters were reportedly pushed back as police arrived at the hotel following reports of a “suspicious bag”.

Sky Sports News chief news reporter Kaveh Solhekol said a “loud bang” was heard shortly after 5.30pm local time in what is believed to be a controlled explosion.

He tweeted: “Suspicious bag outside #FRA hotel. Police moving everyone away. Likely false alarm but police taking no chances.

“Bomb squad have arrived at #FRA hotel. Road closed. Crowds pushed back. Suspicious bag about 10 metres from France squad bus #Euro2016Final

“Loud bang outside France hotel at 17:38 CET. Sound like controlled explosion

“Bomb squad officer walked up to bag. Laid a cable back to his van then blew up the bag.”

The incident was later confirmed to be a false alarm.

Hosts France are due to play Portugal in tonight’s Euro 2016 final at the Stade de France in Paris at 8pm UK time.
