A seven-year-old girl has tragically died after she was struck by rock which was hurled by an elephant at a zoo in Morocco.
The youngster was posing for a picture outside the animal’s enclosure when she was hit by the large rock in Rabat.
The girl was reportedly on her father’s shoulders when she was hit on the back of the head after the elephant scooped up the rock in its trunk and threw it.
She was knocked unconscious and later died in a nearby hospital after she failed to recover from her injuries.
Video taken by a bystander shows the girl receiving treatment on the ground surrounded by distraught witnesses.
In an official statement, the zoo has denied responsibility for the tragedy and added there had been no security breaches..
A zoo spokesman said: “This kind of accident is rare, unpredictable and unusual.
“In these painful circumstances, zoo staff expresses its condolences to the family.
