White House personnel are reportedly scrambling to make Donald Trump’s plans for a “supersized” Air Force One a reality.

Shortly after he was elected, the President tweeted that he wanted to drastically cut the cost of the new project, which he described as "out of control".

But, according to the BBC, Air Force officials have confirmed plans are underway to build the bigger version of the presidential plane.

After the election Trump tweeted that Boeing was making a new aircraft and said that “costs are out of control, more than $4 billion. Cancel order!"

But since then the President reportedly noted with admiration that the emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah, has a bigger plane than him.

Politico reporter Josh Dawsey wrote after the pair met Trump “was very impressed by the emir’s plane but noted that it was longer than his – maybe even by 100 feet”.

Boeing announced last week that they had been awarded the contract, and an official said: “We'll do our best to drive down costs”.

According to a report in Defense One, officials have cut costs by designing commercial, rather than custom, interiors as and the new planes will no longer be able to refuel mid-flight.
