Donald Trump has blamed the turmoil of the US stock market on "good news" in a bizarre tweet.

Breaking his silence after a worrying few days for the US indexes, the US President shared his views on the economic turbulence.

He appeared to attribute blame to the relationship between "good news" and the stock market's biggest plunge in six-and-a-half years.

Mr Trump posted: “In the “old days,” when good news was reported, the Stock Market would go up. Today, when good news is reported, the Stock Market goes down.

“Big mistake, and we have so much good (great) news about the economy!”

In a second tweet on Wednesday, Mr Trump referred to a Fox News story claiming that text messages between two FBI officials reveal Barack Obama wanted “to know everything we’re doing” about the bureau’s investigation into Hillary Clinton’s emails.

“NEW FBI TEXTS ARE BOMBSHELLS!”, he tweeted.

It has previously been reported that FBI agent Peter Strzok and senior FBI lawyer Lisa Page, who were assigned to the Donald Trump Russia probe, described Mr Trump as an “idiot” and “loathsome human” in text messages.

Meanwhile Trump's stock market tweet came after a tumultuous few days for US stocks, which had a knock-on effect on major indexes in Asia and Europe.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 2.3 per cent up on Tuesday, while the Nasdaq rose by 2.1 per cent and the S&P 500 by 1.7 per cent.

On Wednesday, stocks are opening modestly higher on Wall Street as the market stabilises.
