A man has been arrested in connection with the shooting of two male police officers in an "ambush-style" attack in the US.
Scott Michael Greene, 46, was taken into custody without incident Wednesday morning in Dallas County, just west of Des Moines, Iowa police said.
Two officers were 'ambushed' while sitting in their patrol cars in the early hours of Wednesday morning, Sgt. Paul Parizek of Des Moines Police Department told reporters.
The police said the first shooting took place in Urbandale near Des Moines just after 1am local time.
A second police officer was then found shot just two miles away about 20 minutes later, according to reports.
The officers have been named as officer Justin Martin of Urbandale Police Department and Sgt. Anthony “Tony” Beminio of Des Moines police, according to local media.
Both officers have died.
Police described the shootings as “ambush-style attacks," adding that the officers were shot while sitting in their police cars doing nothing wrong.
Sgt. Paul Parizek said: "In all appearances it looks just like that, that these officers were ambushed. It doesn't look like there was any interaction between these cowards and the officers they shot in their cars."
The names of the police officers are not being released until their families have been notified.
Schools in Urbandale have been closed due to the proximity of the shooting.
