Denmark has lifted all Covid-19 restrictions.

This makes Denmark the first EU country to remove all remaining limitations.

Since Friday, a digital pass - used as proof to show someone has been vaccinated – is no longer required when entering nightclubs.

This pass was the last Covid-19 restriction to be eased in the country.

Since August 14, it was no longer mandatory to wear face coverings on public transport and nightclubs reopened on September 1.

Limits on public gatherings were also removed and it was no longer compulsory to show the digital pass to sit inside restaurants, go to sports matches or gyms.

Søren Riis Paludan, a professor of virology at Aarhus University in Denmark’s second-largest city, defended the country’s decision to ease all restrictions.

“I wouldn’t say it is too early. We have opened the door but we have also said that we can close it if needed,” he said.

Ulrik Orum-Petersen, a promoter at event organiser Live Nation, told AFP news agency: “We are definitely at the forefront in Denmark as we have no restrictions, and we are now on the other side of the pandemic thanks to the vaccination rollout.”

As many as 73 per cent of Denmark’s 5.8 million population have been fully vaccinated, including 96 per cent of those 65 and older.

With high vaccine uptakes and no remaining restrictions, the move has provided hope for UK travellers looking to travel this winter.

UK PR manager Niamh Jenkinson of Expedia told The Standard: This is welcome news for UK travellers who have been eager to explore Denmark with quarantine free travel and immerse in the Danish culture with ease.

“Autumn is a fantastic time to experience the natural beauty of many cities such as Copenhagen and the attractions available in the capital, including the picturesque Nyhavn Harbor, the iconic “Little Mermaid” statue, and Tivoli Gardens.

“To ensure our holidaymakers are aware of the most up-to-date travel requirements for an upcoming trip to Denmark, we have resources in place through our Travel Advisory Site to support the entire traveller journey and help those plan their trips with ease.”
