A lawyer for CBS has been fired after allegedly writing that she has no sympathy for the 59 victims of the Las Vegas shooting.

Hayley Geftman-Gold, 41, appeared to write on her Facebook page that she didn’t feel sorry for the killed and wounded festival-goers because “country music fans are often gun-toting Republicans”.

The post from her account read: “If they wouldn’t do anything when children were murdered I have no hope that Repugs will ever do the right thing. I’m actually not even sympathetic bc country music fans often are Republican gun toters.”

The post was spotted and shared widely on social media before it was deleted. A petition was launched calling for her firing.

CBS confirmed to US media that Ms Geftman-Gold had been dismissed from her job as a legal executive.

A statement read: “This individual, who was with us for approximately one year, violated the standards of our company and is no longer an employee of CBS.

"Her views as expressed on social media are deeply unacceptable to all of us at CBS. Our hearts go out to the victims in Las Vegas and their families.”

More than 500 people were also injured in what is the deadliest mass shooting in American history.
