Cadbury's Freddo price 'set to rise to 30p'

Rising costs: The price of Freddo's will raise to 30p

The price of Freddo bars is set to rise to 30p this spring.

The Cadbury’s chocolate frogs are the latest treat to have their price hiked because of manufacturing costs, the Guardian reported.

At the moment, the recommended retail price for Freddo’s is 25p, up from 10p at the turn of the century.

Mondelez International, which owns Cadbury’s, refused to be drawn on specific products but said any increase was a “last resort” to "keep brands on the shelves".

It comes after the company controversially changed the shape of its Toblerone bars so they contain less chocolate for the same price.

Angry chocolate lovers vented on social media after reports of the hike emerged. One said: “30p for a Freddo. The world has gone mad!!!! #freddo.”

While Zak Brown tweeted: "Blimey the cost of the freddo is set too rise too 30p I remember when they was 10p each."

A Mondelez International spokesperson said: “Increasing prices is always a last resort, but to ensure we can keep people’s favourite brands on shelf and look after the 4,500 people we employ in the UK and Ireland, we are having to make some selective price increases with our customers in the UK.”
